Can I programmatically disable/enable the physical keyboard?

Can someone help me with my keyboard problems?

  • I have a Desktop running Windows XP Professional. I few days ago my keyboard stopped working. I have tried many different USB keyboards in many different USB ports, including a USB extension. None of the keyboards worked. However, I have tried all my other USB devices in those same USB ports and all the other devices work fine. I then tried to use a PS2 keyboard and it did not work either. I searched in the Device Manager and it says the HID Keyboard is working properly. But, obviously it isn't when I cannot use it. HOWEVER, I CAN use the keyboard in BIOS. The keyboard is functional right up to the log in screen then goes down. SO, I booted in Safe Mode. Still at log in, the keyboard stops working. I booted with Last Known Good Configuration and still the keyboard stops working at log in, while everything else works just fine, even the USB ports themselves. I have uninstalled the driver, shutdown the PC, and then restarted it for a plug and play keyboard, but to no avail. I have tried to update drivers, but the PC says there are no newer versions than the ones I have. I do not have the XP disk either, so I cannot repair the OS at this time. In addition, the lights on the keyboard do not light up either, as if there is no power. Does anyone have any good ideas? Please, only those who can seriously help me with this respond. I have noticed similar problems on Yahoo Answers where people have responded ignorantly. Thank you for anyone who can truly help me. I appreciate it.

  • Answer:

you might be able to click control panel, click keyboard, click on properties,, click change settings and follow directions from there. it might indicate working properly but a setting might be off in there. i didn't want to play with mine too much for fear of losing what i have working. good luck. wish i could help more.
