Why can't I see the files from my external hard drive?

Help my hard drive stole all my important files?

  • My original laptop hard drive just recently gave me an error that made it unable to turn my PC on. As i later found out these hard drives have been known to have these problems. I have a new hard drive in my PC now and it is working fine ... however i need files from my old hard drive. I just got a USB hard drive enclosure and attached my old hard drive. when i go to view my old hard drive using this i can only see files that were on my old pc`s "c" drive, but i cant see the "my documents" folder where i kept all my files and pics. can anyone tell me how i can find these? I'm going to: DRIVE:\Documents and Settings\myusername\ then access denied I'm getting "access denied" when trying to access my "user name" folder. I can access the " All Users" folder but not the my user name folder. I tried to take ownership of the folder put that didn't work either

ok hard drives can not keep your computer from turning on... if the hard drive failed the computer would tell you that it couldnt read the hard drive or it couldnt find and operating system.there are chips on your mother board that tell you these things. the hard drive does not run your computer these chips do and the computer will turn on with or without a hard drive. it just wont load an operating system without a hard drive. now if your old hard drive did fail it could have disabled your video drivers and you just didnt get a picture at all. and also since i do suspect a hard drive failure. u might want to run disk check on that old hard drive. if the disk check fails then you have lost everything and u might as well throw the drive out. i know its a bummer i just lost everything on my external drive yesterday... it must be national destroy your hard drive through a strange act of god week!
