What is the computer hardware troubleshooting?

My pc card no longer works, it will not install the hardware.?

  • My computer wouldnt connect to my girlfriends dads wireless network and he claimed he could fix it. So I watched as he deleted the hardware from the system and he said don't worry it will reinstall on startup (not only did he delete the wireless hardware but he also deleted the direct ethernet connection) upon restart the computer re-found both the pc card and ethernet card hardware however the connection wizzard displayed this message "An error occured during the installation of the device The specified module could not be found" for both devices. I then proceded to make sure the drivers are installed correctly.. when i choose to reinstall the drivers it displays "The wizard could not find a better match for your hardware then the software you currently have installed" In the device status box it says "The device is not configured correctly. (Code 1).. so i am at a delema.. the drivers have both be deleted and reinstalled from the manufacture cd's and the software is loaded correctly but the hardware still will not install corectly .... any ideas or troubleshooting advice would be greatly appreciated.... some additional info is when i open up the hardware device manager: under network adapters both devices are shown with a yellow cirlce with exclimation mark icon...

Hi there The yellow circle with the exclamation mark is usually a problem with the drivers or the fact that the hardware is conflicting with something else on your system, but if they worked before then the latter is unlikely. Thankfully the device manager generates a specific error code when the yellow exclamation mark appears. Your current error code is 'code 1' This code is specifically concerned with device driver problems and is usually resolved by: First of all just try turning your computer off and then unplugging the network card, then plug it back in and turn your computer back on. It is quite rare, but sometimes windows can pick up on problems like this and solve them. If this doesn't work, I would recommend looking into the properties section of the devices that are malfunctioning and try to click on the 'Drivers' tab and try updating the current software driver from the internet (this may take a while to carry out but usually works). If the above does not solve the problem, I would recommend removing all traces of the problem devices from your system, shut your computer down, unplug the devices, plug them back in again and then switch your computer back on. As it could have just been that a simple error occurred at the installation. I am afraid I am all out of ideas now but best of luck with the problem and if my ideas do not work i recommend taking it to a computer repair shop and have someone look at it, because without the actual computer I can only speculate as to what is wrong with it. I hope my troubleshooting ideas are of any help to you

Maybe NEXT time, you will NOT let just anybody "fix" a problem. I assume it is a laptop. Usually, either the manufacturers drivers or windows drivers will work BUT sometimes the files that update loads has changed OTHER associated files and the "original" drivers no longer work. Take it to a shop technician to get it working correctly; OR Back up EXTERNALLY all your data/app files you need to save, and do a "restore" to earlier date before the problem, or recover to factory defaults and start over which includes loading all apps added and all updates added since you bought it.
