Is there a way to connect to cable tv through my pc?

How can you tell if your TV has S-video or can be hooked up to PC?

  • Okay before I make a really hasty decision to buy an S-video cable. I need to know if I have the right requirements so that hooking my TV and PC together is possible. From what I hear, you need a laptop not a PC (true or false?) Your TV NEEDS to have s-video input (i have an orian TV, which has a cable in the back where you can connect the TV to DirecTV or cabletv to it) The computer needs to have S-video on it, ( well i have PC so I dont know if it automatically knocks me out. I have a DELL PC by the way. ) and finally, you need a graphic card (based on what I've just told you do I need one?)

  • Answer:

None of what you have heard HAS to be the case. The computer does not need to be a laptop. The TV does not NEED to have S-video. The computer does not NEED to have S-video But, you do need a graphics card. But every computer already has a graphics card installed. S-video is a crappy way to connect a computer to a television. Especially in this day and age. what you want to do is find out if there are other options like VGA, HDMI or DVI to connect the computer. But, without more information we cannot really help you. We would need to know the model number of the television in question, along with the model number of the computer. Otherwise we would just be guessing.

To use S-Video, under ideal conditions, you would need one of these on the graphics card and the TV.
