Why won't my computer let me defragment C drive?

What does this computer message mean? I was trying to defragment my C drive, however, I get this error:?

  • Disk Defragmenter has detected that Chkdsk is scheduled to run on the volume: PRESARIO (C:). Please run Chkdsk /f. I have no clue where to find this on my computer. Thanks

  • Answer:

Your computer is telling you it wants to check you disk to detect and fix errors. It cannot do this while Windows is running and so - assuming you allow it - CHKDSK will run next time you boot up. Black screen with white text and when it finishes, your normal logon screen will appear

Type it into the run line

There is corruption in the File system in (C:) Partition of your harddisk, which won't let you defragement the drive. It may possible the system fix it automatically when you next time restart it. However, If you want to fix it, you'll have to check this drive for errors using Check Disk Utility. Follow these steps to do so: Go to RUN and type "CMD" (without the quote marks) Press enter This will take you command prompt, Type "CHKDSK/F C:" (without the quote marks) and press enter, This will check your disk for errors, Press Y if it asks for confirmation during the process. This will solve your problem.
