What do I do if USB ports don't recognize devices?

Windows XP won't recognize my USB plug and play devices.. help!?

  • I am having a problem with some of my USB devices. I have 7 USB ports. First, after unplugging my USB headphones/microphone one day, then plugging it back it, windows wouldn't recognize it. I tried different USB hubs, and still no luck. I decided to do a full reformat because I had been getting some critical errors and thought I may have a virus. Now after my full reformat, my microphone, and now my USB printer are not being picked up by windows. My webcam, mouse, keyboard, and flash drives are all recognized, but not my microphone and printer. I've tried going into device manager, yada yada yada, but I'm really stumped. Calling on all computer geniuses.. please help!

  • Answer:

Check at Control Panel-System-Devices if your USB ports are installed. If they are, you may have a loose connection somewhere starting at the USB terminals on your CPU. Start shaking (connectors & wires). Keep an eye on your device to see if it lights on (even for just a moment). When you have found the right angle and position, glue to its place. If none are installed, check BIOS and look for anything that pertains to USB and enable it. Also make sure that resources are distributed automatically not manual. If still no go, bring to the nearest computer shop. Somethings are better seen than described.

Basically, your power supply can't handle the workload of what you are connecting to your USB ports. You have too much stuff going through the motherboard. Your power supply has a wattage. Lets say 400W power supply. Lets, say your mobo uses 100W, webcam uses 50w, mouse uses 50w, keyboard uses 100w, graphics card uses 100w, you are already maxed out. There is no more power left to be had, so you need to upgrade you're PSU in order to handle everything you are trying to connect. Printers use lots of power as well as your motherboard already so. let me explain first.. If u r connecting any Hardware devices u need a software drivers related to that device then ur PC can recognise the HARDWARE. for printers and microphoens webcams has drivers which will be installed first on ur pc then those will work for keyboard mouse flash drives and some webcam drivers are comes with Operating system. Rest of hem u have to install Once u formatted u have to do is first install MOTHERBOARD DRIVER it contains graphic sound and LAN device drivers.. Go to RUN--->type devmgmt.msc and hit enter then it shows device manager on that just click + sign next to usb if u find any yellow ? or ! mark it shows the problem with drivers u have to install again.. all the best..
