Monitor went strange, what can i do?

Monitor went to sleep and won't restart?

  • I was sitting at the computer and all of a sudden the monitor said it was going to sleep and I can't get it to wake up. The monitor went to sleep on the graphics card that I installed, not the one that came with the computer. I installed a different one. I plugged the cord into the old graphics card on the computer and it's working fine. The computer is a compaq presario and the graphics card that went to sleep is a nvidia 7100 I believe. Please don't tell me the graphics card is now shot......

  • Answer:

If nothing is showing up on the new graphics card but it is showing up on the old one. Than you have driver problem or the graphics card is not good. It could be not seated so take it out and put in back in and make sure it is seated .

make sure its not in hibernation mode, click start >control panel >power options, go down where it says turn off monitor, make sure never is highlighted.

Honestly, it would probably be a good idea to ask your question at the HP forums (compaq is owned by HP): http://www.hp-forums.com. It is a free service and will be able to answer a lot of your questions. You can also interact with a bunch of other users that can give you useful tips. Good luck!

Try disconnecting it and then hook it back up. Hope this helps.

Since it works on the old graphics card, it's not your monitor. I would check that the new graphics card is firmly seated in the slot. remove it and replace it, making sure it is all the way down into the slot. If that doesn't fix it, make sure the drivers are properly installed, although I don't think this is the problem. It would run with the windows drivers even if you didn't install the nvidia ones. Oh.. You did turn off the onboard graphics in the bios when you installed the new card, didn't you?
