Laptop not recognizing my hard drive anymore?

Laptop not recognizing the usb hard drive?

  • I have connected a hard drive to my laptop via the usb port in the past, but recently I restarted the laptop without the usb drive connected. and now the laptop will not recognize the drive. The device manager shows that it is connected and working properly, but 'My Computer' won't recognize that it is connected. I tried discovering new hardware, disable/enable from the device manager, and uninstall/installing the drivers, but I get the same result. I even tried to rescan from the computer disk management utility, but nothing. I use Norton for backups, but the utilities there don't search for new devices, it only tells me that it cannot communicate to the device. What should I try next?

  • Answer:

Touch and feel the hdd, if you feel vibration, then probably update driver or try attaching in other computer but if you dont feel any vibration, better contact the vendor.
