How do I do a dual boot with xp for my vista computer?

My computer won't boot up after installing Windows although installation went fine. I've tried XP and Vista.?

  • My computer's specs: Motherboard ---> DFI RDX200 LanParty RAM ---> 1Gb Crosair + 1Gb Apacer + 2Gb Buffalo (PC 3200) Video Card ----> ATI Radeon X1900 256MB. I have also tried a ATI Radeon X1550 256MB. Hard Drive -----> Western Digital (WD5000AAJS) CPU ------> AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200 In addition I often have issues actually getting the motherboard to startup properly. When I turn it on the fans start, the cpu fan seems to be running, and the fan on the video card is spinning. I have to turn it on and off a few times for it to show anything on the monitor. After installing Windows 7 recently, on reboot the motherboard logo showed, it asked if I wanted to boot from the CD (I didn't press anything), and then the screen just turned black. I would appreciate any tips you could give me.

  • Answer:

check boot order, then check your memory sticks. sometimes that can be the culprit. bad memory can stop a pc from starting up. i'm taking there are no messages, errors or anything? i say do a fresh install all over again, make sure your copy is good and reinstall from a clean sweep. you could have corrupted files, but it should say so. go into bios check your settings could be in there. make sure your hard drive is the first thing that boots up after install. if all that doesn't;t work, and you know you cd drive is clean and working properly, check your memory. pull one stick out to see how it goes.

since you have verified that you have a clean install. Try setting the boot order to boot from HD. Remove any disc in the disc drive. Enjoy your computer

You may be having trouble with drivers, after you boot and are able to get into the computer go through the process of installing the drivers from the disk you have. Then go into device manager and see what is in need of drivers and update them.
