Why wont my computer play sound?

  • My computer wont play sound. This is the known problem. Let me be specific on what exactly is wrong and what is not wrong. Starting up the computer doesnt produce any beeps or welcome chimes. When i go to play an audio track or video(online or off) it wont play. now i dont just mean in sound, i press the play button and it doesnt play. it says it is playing but the track is not advancing in runtime. (ex. 0 seconds of 2:30). just doesnt leave the starting line. anyway. I have tried system restore but my system didnt have any restore points this time. so restore is out of question. It's not the devices. i've tried that and it keeps telling me they are fine. i have uninstalled and reinstalled the devices in case, but alas still same problem. oh and virus programs not finding anything. not devices, not system restore, possible not virus. any help?

    I agree, if you haven't tried it yet find what brand you have and look online for the driver. Even if the computer claims it's fine. I've had to do that a couple times when my sound mysteriously vanished on me in the past, and reinstalling the driver fixed it.
