If you have Vista, you can do what's called an "Upgrade" where it installs the new OS (Windows 7) but moves all of your files with it so you won't lose anything. If you have something else, you'll have to back everything up so you can transfer it later cause the "Fresh Install" will delete your hard drive for you.
no but i would just so it fresh and there no bugs. but no you don't
copy or have a back up of all the data in your hard drive. how? burn it to a dvd-r or save it to an external hard drive (expensive). when you reformat your pc with windows 7, all the data will be lost and will be replace by windows 7. if your not interested with your old files from your hard drive, you can install windows 7 without saving or moving it. Note: new OS like windows 7 will erase all the data on your hard drive so be careful. save it first or let it be erase.
Hi Lola, If you are upgrading from Vista, you will most likely have the option to do an upgrade keeping your files, folders, and settings in tact. However, if you are upgrading from XP or installing a full retail version of Windows 7, you will need to do a clean install meaning your computer will be wiped in the process. If this is the case, it is best to back up to an external hard drive or use Windows Easy Transfer to move your files to Windows 7. Only if you have something other than Vista already. You can upgrade directly if not.
