Why is my PC's CPU always running at 100?

Why is my CPU running at 100 percent, when only three windows are open?!?

  • I run Windows XP (Home Edition) on my system and frequently find that the number of processes running can be as high as 63, with the CPU usage rising to 100 percent and a commit charge of 943M/2313M. I should add that this happens with only two or three windows open but minimized. This completely takes over my PC and virtually brings it to a non-useful condition. Can anyone please tell me what can be done to help me safely bring the amount of processes down as I don't believe that all 63 are needed? Many thanks and kind regards.

  • Answer:

Like the guy above said check for Malware etc, A heat issue could also be a factor or poor air flow causing the CPU to heat up & automatically adjusting to a slower processing speed to reduce heat

u may be looking idle should be 80 t 100% most of the time, also u can go into msconfig & stop program for loading, that u don't need.:)

There's no telling how many processes you actually "need", altho Windows is notorious for providing you with numerous services that you'll likely never use. When's the last time you did a full scan for viruses and malware?
