Answer:
Chances are that your cd key would no longer work due to the validation seeing a completely different set of hardware. You can however use the microsoft number on the sticker of your old pc and call microsoft, tell them you upgraded, and they will give you a new key.

Yes, you can install it from the CD Rom. But for that you have to set up your CD Rom as first boot device in the bios. Go to your bios (by pressing specified key, usually Del or F2 when the first screen comes up after pressing the power button). Then find the option of Boot Sequence/Boot Device Priority and set your CD-ROM as first. Then, save (F10) and restart. When the screen shows, Press Any Key to boot from CD, press any. The setup will start. Then follow the instructions. You'll find an option to format your drives and make partitions. Also, you'll have to enter your CD Key at one screen. after finishing, you'll have an option of Registering your windows. You can also skip that, then you wouldn't have new license key and cannot validate your windows in the internet if you need to (as for downloading stuff from microsoft site), but you should be able to use it. And, as far as I know, you cannot use the license key of one machine on another one.

Interesting question. There is two types of Windows XP disks, one is OEM and the other is resale. OEM cannot be used in a new machine. Well it can, but you will not be able to get updates because windows will not authenticate the software, in fact they will cause you some internal problems if you try to update windows OEM that was used on a previous machine. On the other hand, if you have a retail version and the other machine has been retired, you can reuse the software. Now put your Windows software in your CDROM and it ask you if you want to destory the partition and make a new one. You will still have to format the harddrive and then load windows.

Follow these: 1. You will need a retail copy of Windows XP operating system to install it on any computer you like. 2. If you only have a copy of the OS (operating system) that came with another computer, then that copy would most likely be an OEM version, which means that it will only work with that certain computer/motherboard. 3. Thus, Microsoft will not give you a free license because that would be like giving you a free copy of Windows XP, the company still wants to make money! :) Hope this helped! :)

Well, generally, people install an operating system off a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM. Just insert, click "yes" repeatedly, and yu've got a freah OS. then, get all your drivers off the Taiwanese vendor sites, because the ones supplied on CD-ROM will be obsolete and may be buggier. As for the license? You may transfer a retail copy of XP to your new machine, but OEM and upgrade copies will not work, nor will copies sold alongside an HP/Gateway, .etc PC. But, eth0 will solve your woes. Google it!
Go to the Bios and change the boot setting, which whatever that is to Boot from CD/DVD-ROM. Once you did that, put the Windows installation CD into that CD/DVD Drive and wait for it to load. Then follow the screen instruction to install the Operating System.
