Can i connect my laptop to a tower as a monitor?

How Do I Hook/Connect my Computer Tower to my Laptop so I can retrieve files from my Tower?

  • Hello, I have an Toshiba laptop and a Compaq Tower Computer. As of this year my famil replace the old tower with a new one but didn't bother to save any of the files on the old tower, so we have a tower with many files, pictures, music, home videos, documents and ect that I wish to use. Sadly, the old monitor that came with the old tower recently broke and cannot be use. So we cannot see what is on the tower or retrieve whatever files are on it. I wish to connect my old tower with my Toshiba laptop in order to retrieve my files but have no way in doing so. Even just useing the laptop screen monitor would be a big help but even the screen cord I bought from the store to hook my laptop to my Television doesn't seem to work. Can anyone give me some advice or help?

    I would unhook the monitor from the new tower, hook it up to the old one, and then network the two computers together. If you don't already have one, you will need an ethernet cable- it just looks like a big phone cable, and there should be slots for it on both computers.

Open up (yes, with a screwdriver) your old tower, remove the hard drive, open up the new tower, and put the old tower's hard drive in the new tower. When you boot up the tower, the new hard drive will show up as a second drive. Or buy a cheap external hard drive enclosure and put your old tower's hard drive inside it. Then you can plug it into your new Toshiba laptop.
