How do I fix my upside down screen on Vista?

How can I fix the screen going black right before login [Windows Vista]?

  • I recently upgraded my graphics card to an ATI Radeon HD 5670 1GB. Like seriously, so recent it was today. It's a catalyst for the issue. I have it hooked up, but when I boot up my Vista partition, which I need for video editing, after "Microsoft Corporation" loading bars, it goes black. I hear the windows splash screen sound, I can type in my password and hear it log in, the monitor stays on because it gets signal, but that signal is black. Everything works fine I just can't see it. I powered down and booted with on board VGA, installed drivers and retried. Still didn't work. I booted to my Ubuntu partition, which isn't even supposed to support the card, and it runs fine, perfect actually on that. Unfortunately the only thing on Ubuntu I'd ever need a graphics card for is Minecraft. (.....) Through Ubuntu I know the card works fine, but not in Vista. When loading up through onboard VGA, the graphics card does not show up in device manager, which bothers me. How does Vista not recognize it if I can boot halfway through to the operating system with it? It acts like onboard VGa is my only option and there's nothing else. Help me. I want to hurt someone.

  • Answer:

If you haven't already done so, update your ATI drivers. See link.
