How can I get more disk space? I've tried using Add or Remove Programs, but sometimes this pops up...?

This is the box that pops up when I try uninstalling some things using A/R programs: http://s190.photobucket.com/albums/z234/thefarm1967/?action=view¤t=joker067.jpg I'm also trying "Disk Cleanup" but it randomly disappears even though it's not complete...please help! I think this is why I can't completely download files off the Internet!! So, is there any other way to clean up my computer, to clear it of unused programs? Thanks! P.S. - I think it's the C drive on which I need more space.

Answer:
well it can be because of viruses or it can be a genuine error. So u should take care of both of it. Scan your computer thoroughly using good virus scan like AVG 8 and then you delete any useless data from your drives. After that also perform disk defragmantation from Start->Programs->Accessories->System tools->Disk Defregmenter. Hope that solves the problem. P.S.-You can download the AVG 8 from net but if its not free i can giv the setup but most probably its free download

Try deleting unimportant files from your hard disk. like song and movies which occupy the most of space.

I'd first go to Start-->My Computer and put your mouse over your C drive and it should show you Total disk size and Free space available. If it does appear you are low on space, download CCleaner http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/ to remove all unnecessary files/cookies/temp files/etc. Then check your disk space again. It could also be that whatever program is popping the message is trying to install to a drive other than C for some reason.

You don´t gain as much space by deletting installed software. The issue is about your data files, i.e. music, videos, among others. By the way, you could try to uninstall by means ob booting in SAFE MODE and following the usual procedure. Also, you can download Tune-Up Utilities www.tune-up.com (install version 2006 or eralier because of file size), Tis package, free for 30 days, has tons of resources, and uninstall is just one of them

Hey. Use disk defragment. It's very useful. It's in the same folder as disk cleanup

oh i get that too its soo annoying! um..try cleaning out your recycling bin, maybe any old documents you have that you wrote on microsoft word that you don't need..along with programs you don't use and take up a lot of space...if you save your conversations on aim or msn try deleting those maybe some pictures that you don't really need...it really is annoying though and even when you do delete some of those things they still complain about low disck space

Programs probably aren't taking up the majority of the space on your hard drive unless you have a lot of big games installed, so removing them in add remove programs probably won't do much anyway. Most people fill up their hard drives with movies, mp3s, and pictures. Try deleting these instead. Also, the message you are getting can occur for many reasons. It's kind of a catch-all error saying "Something's wrong and I'm not sure what the problem is." You need to check to make sure it's telling you the truth. Go to "My Computer," right-click on the C Drive, go to Properties, and check how much free space you really have. If you have enough, you probably need to find someone who knows more about computers to help you there. It is kind of hard to diagnose this kind of problem when your not sitting at the actual computer.

If using a anti-virus software like McAfee, McAfee comes with a disk clean-up utility that will totally clear out all junk. Giving you more disk space. My wife's laptop kept telling her that her file was getting over loaded. The disk cleanup and defrag did not clean it all the way. So I had McAfee clean-up utility and it cleaned up an estimated 24,000,000 mb of unused junk. Now she has plenty of disk space available. If have McAfee, go to security center and click the clean up utility, NOT the quick clean one. And just wait for it to do its thing. you will be surprised at all the clutter, the PC disk cleanup overlooked.
