Why is my printer giving this message?

My lexmark printer keeps giving me this 'Cartridge Stall' message?

    Remove all cartridges from the printer, then close the cover. Unplug the power adapter from the printer. The power adapter is the black box behind the printer where the power cord is attached. Leave the power cord attached to the power adapter and the other end of the power cord plugged in straight to a known working power outlet in the wall, bypass any surge device or power strips. This will refresh the printer. Plug it back in the printer after 30 seconds. When printer's ready, reload the cartridges. If problem persists, I strongly suggest you contact Lexmark Technical Support to further investigate the problem. Thanks.
