How do I access the parent panel?

Laptop using Windows 7. I am unable to access devices and printers in the control panel.?

  • My laptop does not recognise the printer - although there was not a problem before. I have downloaded new drivers. When I try to access devices and printers through the control panel it won't open and the system just hangs - it won't even show Microsoft XPS Document writer. I am now trying to install a new printer - insert the disk as per the instructions and it just keeps trying to load - have tried downloading the drivers from the internet but that doesn't work either - says its checking system and doesn't get any further. Control panel works fine with other things - just seems to be the drivers and printers that is a problem. Anyone have any ideas please.

  • Answer:

If you were running XP before and you are now running 7 Home Premium many external devices will not work. You need to upgrade to 7 Professional. The sales person should have made that perfectly clear.

Other answers

Type in "device manager' in the start search menu. There you should be able to open the device manager. Try searching "XPS" in the start search menu and it should find the XPS printer. For some reason it is not set as default to open XPS documents. Go to the link below and see if your printer is compatible with Windows 7.
