HP Deskjet F340 printer-blinking power, paper, and ink lights + scanning problems?

  • Hi, I'm having troubles with my HP Deskjet F340 All-in-One printer. Whenever I turn it on, the power, the paper, and the ink (first 3) lights all flash simultaneously. In the bit under those lights, an E is displayed. I have tried many things, and am unsure what to do. Details: -my cartridges are low, but I am not sure if this printer will still work, so I'm holding off on spending that kind of money for replacements until I'm sure. -I am running Windows 7 32-bit on an HP Pavilion a1520n. -printing will work, but with faded colours (due to ink shortage). -when I press the scan button, the power light blinks faster than normally for 2-3 seconds, then continues to flash with the paper and ink lights, and doesn't scan. I just want to know: how do I fix this so that the scanning will work and the lights will stop blinking? Thanks!
