I need help setting up a printer on my new laptop?

  • My Laptop uses windows 7 and the printer is hooked to my desk top that uses xp . How do I set up my laptop so I can use my printer from it. Right now the printer even though it is set up to share is undetectable.

  • Answer:

well you need to find the name of the printer. then go online and download the DRIVER for the printer on the company's website. After you install the program, your printer will be discoverable.

I disagree although what is said may work. I have a network with the printer on a Vista machine with an XP machine and a wireless to a Window 7 Laptop and the Windows 7 machine can see the public files on the Vista and the printer and the XP can see the same, but the Windows 7 can't see the public files on the XP. Without having checked it out, no need, I believe MicroSoft changed network access on Win7 and will not recognize XP network names although it almost automatically hooked up to Vista.
