What are the best computer printers & scanners for making fine arts prints?

• I'm an non-computer-wise artist who is interested in making prints of my original art work. I've been told that I need a calibrated printer & a high resolution scanner. So is there anything else that I will need? And what are the best brands/models of scanners & printers for fine art prints? Don't know enough to assume that good equipment for commercial graphics would be suitable for fine art work. What I do know is that the printer has got to handle a wide variety of papers of different sizes, textures & thicknesses of archival quality. I have no clue as to what makes one scanner better than another. What are the different printing methods available through computer printers? And which one is best for this application? For what reason(s)? Printing my artworks is a long overdue project. Thank you for your experienced feedback!

  if you need large prints, the epson color stylus 1400 goes to 19 x 13. It is the printer of choice for many photographers and graphic artists. If you only need up to 8 x 10, the Epson Artisan 725 is a great printer and it's on sale for $99 after instant $100 off direct from epson. With either printer you can get ink at 50 cents a cartridge.
