Will refilling my ink cartridge damage my printer?

How to fool the lexmark 3-in-1 printer after refilling an ink cartridge?

  • I have a Lexmark 3-in-1 printer, model X5070. I re-filled the black ink cartridge using a kit for that purpose but the printer is "reading" that I have no ink. I am guessing that there is some sort of chip perhaps (?) that sensed the low amount before? What can I do to block this action so that the printer will print? It won't even allow "complete-a-print" now. Thank you!

  • Answer:

1- Remove all ink cartridges from the printer, both black and color, new or refilled. 2- Turn the printer off by pressing the Power button. Let the printer stay off for 20 seconds. 3- Turn the printer back on. Allow the printer to go through the usual start-up process and recognize there are no cartridges installed. 4- Repeat Steps 2 and 3 until the printer has been turned on and off five times. This process resets and removes the last five ink cartridge IDs used from the printer's memory, allowing the printer to believe the refilled ink cartridge is new. 5 Replace the ink cartridges and attempt to print.

You cannot block the low warning, however you may be able to continue to print by ignoring the message an opting to print with reserve ink. If you cannot get by this you will need to buy a new cartridge, unfortunately there is no way reset a lexmark cartridge.
