How much can I print out of one Lexmark #2 ink cartridge?

What kind of printer will allow you to still print, even if one ink cartridge is out of ink?

  • I went to Fry's and Office Depot. It seems as if all printers are that if you run out of, say the blue ink, the printer won't let you print, even if you need to print something in black and white. However, at Fry's, some sales associate/worker at Fry's told us that the Lexmark Prestige Pro805 Wireless All-in-One Printer (print, scan, and copy) allows you to print something, even if one ink cartridge has run out... is this true? I've looked everywhere. In addition, when we went to Office Depot, we didn't see the Lexmark Pro 805, but we did see the Lexmark 605 and the salesman told us that the 605 could not print if one ink cartridge had run out. But he was skeptical as to whether the 805 could do that, especially because the 605 and the 805 use the same ink cartridge system... Can somebody tell me if the Lexmark 805 can print even if one ink cartridge has run out of ink? Or another print-scan-copy printer that can do this?

  • Answer:

Inkjet printers should not allow you to print with a color missing. Doing so will destroy the print head of the missing color. Read this for details http://ccs-digital.com/inkjet-care.asp Even most laser printers wont work with a color missing for no particular reason.
