How can I fix a paper jam?

Interesting paper jam - paper gets caught *in* the toner cartridge? How can I fix this?

• I have a Brother HL-2040 that's served me faithfully for a few years now. When it ran out of toner about a year and a half ago I refilled the cartridge with toner from ebay. Since then it has printed many pages without any problems. Recently it started jamming in a consistent way, though. The paper barely exits the tray and enters the toner cartridge itself then the printing stops. It'll print an inch or so of the document before giving up. When I remove the toner cartridge the paper basically falls out on its own. There's a roller in there which I believe is the part which becomes electrically charged during the printing process? I pulled a moderate amount of lint out of the area, I figured that might be involved. I managed to get the printer to do one more page then it jammed more permanently. What are some common maintainance things that need to be done to 4 year old toner cartridges? Are there joints I could hit with some WD40, maybe? It seems like maybe the roller is just having a hard time spinning? Is there any way I can troubleshoot to make sure this isn't the printer? I'd just buy a new toner cartridge for ~25 bucks, but if I find out the printer is dead I'll be disappointed. The whole thing is replaceable for probably 50 bucks.

  its jamming because the timing for the paper to pass the ink cartridge part is off, try cleaning all the rollers with a piece of cloth and lacquer thinner. this is a much better cleaner designed for cleaning rubber rollers but it is expensive and sells only in bulk. so thinner is the next substitute.
