How to change paper size on a printer?

i have a hp photosmart printer and this is the first time i haven't used regular paper to print, i have a smaller piece of paper i need to use its 8.5 in L x 5.5 in W and i cant seem to print it off.. the printer is wanting the regular paper. i called hp and they couldn't help me.

Start Settings Printers and faxes Right click the printer icon Click printer preferences Click the paper/quality tab Go down to size is and select the paper size I doubt if you will find the size you need, as it is quite unique
