Why isn't my printer scan working?

thank you for coming Im using a HP deskjet f4235 all-in-one printer. i have it connected to power and the USB is plugged into my computer. i have all the proper drivers set up and the printing is working perfectly fine. the problem is, i have a paper inside the scan part and im trying to scan that document and get a editable copy onto my computer. i pressed the scan button on the printer, and nothing happens on my computer asking me where i want to save it. i do however see that the printer did scan the page, i just dont get a pop up asking me to save it. incase this helps my computer info is HP home premium windows vista thank you for any help i get, its much appreciated (sorry for the trollface, this is my brothers account)
