What is a printer spooler?

I'm having trouble with my printer. What's the printer spooler service?

So I'm at work, and I just tried to print a document form Microsoft Excell. However, when i did this, it said that no printer is installed, which is weird, because it's always worked before. When I tried to install the printer, it said that the printer spooler service is not running. I'm lost now, so can somebody help me?

To start the Spooler service, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel. 2. Double-click Administrative Tools, and then click Services. 3. Double-click the Printer Spooler service, and then change the startup type to Automatic. This sets the Spooler service to start automatically when you restart the computer. 4. If you want to start the spooler service immediately, click Start under the Service Status field. If for some reason you are still unable to solve this issue, contact a website like http://www.secureremotesupport.com where they can have a technician repair it for you.
