How do I connect a laptop running XP to a wireless HP printer?

Epson printer (SX400) not recognized by Windows XP?

  • We have a new PC running Windows XP 32-bit but when we tried to connect our EPSON printer to it, it says, "hardware not recognized" and sees it as an "unknown device". The specifications are: EPSON SX400 all-in-one Uses USB We have Windows XP Professional PC is an hp Compaq d530 CMT It's a European PC. We have the CD with all the drivers for the printer. EPSON support isn't any help. We tried: - Uninstall and reinstall. -Uninstall, remove all leftover files with the use of an EPSON manual, and then reinstall. - Tried looking for a support program on the CD that should fix the problem, but the file isn't on it, and the solution was only described for Windows 98 and ME. - Used an USB to printer-plug converter (those large plugs with a green colour) - Download drivers manually and install those. It caused the PC to recognize a printer even if it wasn't switched on. When we did put it on, it couldn't print anything. - Update the USB drivers. All of them were up-to-date. - Change the USB ports. Sometimes when plugging the printer in, our USB mouse stops working. Replugging in the mouse made it work again. We currently use a laptop If any more info is needed in order to help us, feel free to ask. Contacting EPSON isn't the answer, we haven't gotten a solution from them. Please do not submit any of the answers I listed above, unless you're positive we did something wrong there. Thanks in advance!

Dude, have you tried this? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/871233 It's a fix from microsoft for devices that are not recognized. Honestly I never tried this one for my issue that my external hardisk could not be read by my computer.. But I think its worth the try... I know the solution to our problems with unrecognized device and it is to reformat the whole computer because the registry is messed up. Not worth the try for me because I don;t have some time to reformat now and reinstall applications, but I would bet my fingers that reformatting would work 100% for you. Additionally if you want to verify that reformatting would be best for your issue, borrow a computer from a friend and have the printer installed there. If it works there then we already know that the solution is to reformat. If it doesn't work then the problem is with the printer itself.
