How to connect a printer?

How to connect my notebook to a printer wirelessly? (added details)?

  • I have an LG x120 mini notebook, and my printer is HP OfficeJet J4550 all-in-one. My printer is connected to my desktop which is Hp w2007 if that helps, and now I want to connect my notebook to the printer as well so i can print directly from there too. I read some articles online and tried to do it but I am testing it and it doesnt work. What i read was to go to my desktop computer's control panel, printers, and then right click>sharing>share this printer. and then i named the printer HpPrinter. then i went to my notebook's printers and faxes>add a printer>local printer attached to this computer>(uncheck the automatically detect and install my plug and play printer) and then<create a ne port>choose local port from dropdown menu>enter a port name (i named it HpPrinter as well, but am not sure if i could name it the same as the desktop)>and then comes the installation part, i chose the manufacturer as HP>and for the printers, I couldnt find the hp officejet j4550 so i chose HP OfficeJet> and then it asked me if i want to print a test page, i said yes. and nothing came out from the printer. can anyone tell me what i did wrong or how should i do it? okay so i did what you guys said. i browsed for a printer and it found mine. everything was okay i finished it, but when i print something, still nothing comes out

  • Answer:

are there now 2 printers showing as attached to your laptop, if so delete the wrong 1. Next try and print to the printer, a printer icon should appear in the system tray bottom right. Open it up and see whats happening, what does it say? I'm implying by what you have put above that the printer is connected and shared from your desktop PC. Did you try and print whilst the desktop was switched off? try dropping the firewall on both machines when you send a print from the netbook as the document could be getting caught up on route to the printer via your desktop.
