Windows 7 screen resolution problem?

  • Im having a problem with my screen resolution after I upgraded to windows 7. In vista it worked fine, my monitor is native at 1920x1080. But everytime I set it at that, words become blurry. I did a little looking around and found that everytime I go to 1920x1080 it reverts to 59 hertz refresh rate. I then try to switch it to 60 hertz, everything becomes clear but then the display is too large. Things are off the screen and you really cant see any icons. As soon as I go one resolution down to 1776x1000, everything fits, it reverts to 50 hertz fresh rate, but there is a black strip around the whole screen, like it doesnt fit all the way. I installed the latest driver for my 4850 ati radeon graphics card, so I cant think of anything else. Any ideas?

  • Answer:

The only thing I can think of is that Windows 7 needs a driver for your monitor, to tell the display driver what resolution your display can support. 59Hz sounds like an appropriate refresh rate for a TV, as if it thinks your screen is a TV. You might try unchecking the box that says "Hide modes that this monitor cannot support."
