What's a good PC monitor?

Whats wrong with my pc monitor?

  • i have a tft monitor its about 4 years old. recently when i turn the pc on with the monitor the screen goes through all these colour combinations, like multi coloured lines, flickering, grey, various coloured lines etc. eventually it stops and my desk top appears, without any loss in colour or anything. (i have checked the plugs and stuff and its all plugged in ok) this happens every time i turn it on. my graphics card is an nvida card and is only under a year old. and all my graphics are fine once the desk top appears, it just when it boots up that there is a prob. could the monitor be dying, or is it my graphics card, or any other problem.?? please help

    could be the graphics card, graphics card driver, or a faulty cable. switch the cable, if that doesn't work, update the graphics card driver, and if that doesn't work try a different monitor if you have one laying around. if none of those work then replace the graphics card

That sounds like the monitor is going through a "self test" or configuration. Walk through the menus on the monitor itself using the buttons on it and see if there is a place where you can turn the self test off.
