  • ok, I already asked a question sorta like this one but I couldn't get anyone to understand... I had this virus called Vista antispyware 2011, In my computer, and I got It out with malwarebytes, and It Is NO longer In my computer. I Repeat, Its out of my Computer, the only Problem Is, Is that It messed everything up, I can't open the Internet without having to right click on the mouse and hit start, when I click the internet a thing comes up and ask" What program would you like to open this with?" ugh its so annyoing same with all my other Programs In the computer, and It never use to do that before, I need help I just want It back the way It was, and please don't post: "Here use this removal Guide to get It out with!," Because Its not In my computer anymore and plus I used a Guide to get It out with but It didn't say anything about Programs not opening, Its been this way for about a week now, and I'd really like to be able to scan some pictures I drew and post thm on my site, and I'd really like to be able to open other things without using start,

All of your issues are because of registry problems. Try this: Click Start, in the "Type here to search box", type "regedit" without quotes and press Enter. The expand to the following: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ Applications\ iexplore.exe\ shell\ open\ command mine says: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" %1 Yours should say something similar. If it doesn't, then you need to change it. I am using 64-bit windows 7. If you are using 32-bit then just change it to "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" %1 Be sure to include the quotes. If you are using 64-bit, make it like mine. You can determine by clicking Start, right-click Computer, click Properties, then look at System Type. Don't worry about the Windows 7 / Vista difference. I looked at another laptop that is using Vista and it's the same. Since you're using 32 bit change it to: "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" %1 You may have to restart for the changes to take effect. Then let me know if it works. So you're saying when you try to open it, even after the registry change, you still prompt on which application to open it with? Maybe your shortcut is bad. Try going directly to the application to open it. Do this by Start > In the Search Programs and Features box, type "iexplore.exe" without quotes then press Enter. Ugh, that doesn't make any sense. If the application isn't found then it's trying to tell you that you don't have IE installed, which obviously can't be true. Try pasting the following in the same box: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe Then press enter.

When it asks you what program to open it with, you need to check the box "Open with this program every time" (or something like that) and then browse for your explorer.exe. Malwarebytes removed the virus but it also wiped parts of your computer's registry that told it what to open programs with (which is explorer.exe). Every program is opened with explorer.exe, other formats you'd have to look up.
