White squares on my monitor?

What's wrong with my computer monitor? (compaq mv 540)?

  • To turn on my monitor it starts loading windows xp, then once it's done a screen shows up that says "out of frequency range" and there three squares, red green blue lined up. Below the squares it says "set screen resolution lower or see monitor user guide"....plz I rly need help. Merci beucaup :)

  • Answer:

Either the refresh rate or the resolution is too high for your monitor. Your monitor can only do 1024x768 resolution (at not much more than 60 Hz), so if you don't have a higher-resolution monitor around as the other user suggested, you can start the computer in Safe Mode: restart your computer and then press F8 before Windows loads up. There, change the resolution to 1024x768 or 800x600 and the refresh rate to 60 Hz.

Sounds like someone set your resolution too high and then your monitor couldn't display it. I would recommend finding a screen that can support the max resolution (1080p) and hooking it up to that so you can see the display and then lower the settings back down and then hook it back up to your monitor.
