What resolution would be best for me?

What's the best resolution to set my computer on...?

  • I have a new Sony KDL52V5100 LCD TV which is 1080P (120mhz) and have a older Dell Inspiron 9300 with a ATI Mobility Radeon X300 video card. The card has both DVI and VGA connectors and upon listening to both Sony and Dell as well as a few tech sites I have decided to not go with a DVI to HDMI adapter since I was told there might be problems with the handshake between the video card and the TV. Also there is already a devoted connection on the TV that is a VGA connector made for hooking up a computer...I do have a good VGA cable (Belkin Pure AV) so I am wondering what would be the best resolution to set my compter to in display properties for the Sony Bravia....I know my TV is 1080P but I also know the video card which is a ATI is a OEM and Dell probably limited the functions on the resolutions to set...any reccommendations to the best resolution to use on this setup?

  • Answer:

Big enough so you can read it and small enough that you can fit stuff on the screen. It's a completely personal decision.

The options that appear in the display properties depend on the monitor connected. (that scroll bar that changes resolutions). The card shouldn't be 'limited'. Just use the VGA connector to hook them up, and select the highest resolution you can on display properties. VGA is not 'worse' quality than DVI if you were wondering.
