Monitor cables falls out now I get "check signal cable" how come?

I put it back and that screen comes up. The cable has had one pin missing for awhile but now the monitor doesn't work in the right slot so I put it in the one above. Now for some reason my monitor resoulution is huge in "600x800" and the videos of my pc play with squares on the screen and distortion.
