How to connect laptop to tv using VGA to HDMI?

Connecting laptop to hd tv please help?

  • I have three questions. My goals is to connect my laptop to my hdtv and watch movies on the tv. 1)I have laptop that only has a VGA port and my tv has HDMI and s video. Im not sure if my tv has dvi. I would like to know what options I have in terms of connecting my laptop to my tv? 2)I got it right before by using vga to svideo but i only had sound to my laptop. How can fix the sound issue? 3)When i connected to my tv with the vga to S video cable i was scared that the static images would burn into my plasma screen whats the chances of this happening and what can i do to the screen settings to make sure that only the movie I would like to watch appears on to the screen in full screen. I battled to get the movie to play in full screen. What do i do? Thank you for your help in advance!

  • Answer:

burn in is a very common problem for plasmas - it usually goes away but can degrade the picture over repeated times - hdmi is the only connection that carries both video and sound - you can hook up some computer speakers to your laptop's headphone jack to make the sound better - i'm not sure if an adapter from the headphone jack to the rca jacks on your tv would work or not (seems like it should though) if you've already had success hooking it up through s-video then just stick with that - to get full screen picture try changing the resolution on the laptop or stretching the picture on the tv

Yes, I'll answer all three to the best of my ability! 1) If your computer only has a VGA port, you could use a converter. I know that I have a DVI to HDMI converter. It's normally around a inch long (USA). 2) Yes, VGA doesn't transfer over sound. There's a few options, as I said, try a converter to S-Video. But another option is to connect your Laptop to big speakers next to the TV, but that would hardwire your Laptop to that area. 3) Normally, most Plasmas have a remove burn program in them. You could try a screen saver that changes a lot or a photo slide. S-Video is very old, so it won't support 1920x1080 (pixels of most plasmas in today's screens). Go with the DVI or a HDMI, because VGA's kinda low for a plasma. But, rumors are that HDMI's going out and a new version of it's coming. You're welcome!
