How do I connect Monitor Sharing between my Laptop and CRT?

What type of VGA cable do I need to connect my laptop to a CRT monitor?

  • The backlight in my laptop screen has died so I am connecting it to an external monitor but i'm not sure which type to buy. The laptop is a HP Pavilion dv6000.

  • Answer:

Most low cost monitors have a 15 pin VGA cord with them. They also may have an HDI but you dont need that. You can even take your laptop to the store and plug it in and try it. I would go for a small inexpensive one for around $100.00. The monitors come with VGA cords and I use laptops at work and plug them in all the time. You can get your backlite fixed for around $20.00 if you get on line and purchase an inverter. Take out about 8 screws and plug it in. Then you wont need a monitor! I fixed several of them and it takes about 30 minutes.
