Is it possible for my computer to have 2 monitors?

How can I connect my 2 VGA monitors to my desktop computer?

  • Both monitors have a VGA (blue colored) plug for them. In my hand, I have 1 DVI-VGA cable, and 2 vga-vga cables. So the problem is, one monitor is already plugged into the computer by the vga port. So that leaves me with 2 holes left, one is pink and long, the other has 2 rows of dots (its green). With what I have, is it possible to connect both screens to my single computer? also, if its not possible, and i have to go buy a cable, can you specify what its called, and which color plug it goes into? thanks!

  • Answer:

Neither of those other inputs are for video. So you would have to either buy and install another video card to enable output to both monitors, or get a splitter cable. The problem with the splitter cable is that it will only duplicate the image, not allow you to have two separate screens to use at the same time.

The pink one is a parallel port commonly used on older printers and the green is a serial port commonly used by older modems and such [see image http://images03.olx.com/ui/1/41/67/10973467_2.jpg ] You really need a dual output graphics card to connect two monitors though Im sure there are more costly methods of doing it.
