How to use a laptop screen as just a screen?

How to use a laptop screen as an external monitor of a laptop?

  • I have 2 laptops. I want to use one of them for an external monitor. They run with window 7 and xp. I'd like to know what cable I have to buy to connect a laptop (XP) as an external monitor of a laptop (Window 7), or if it's even possible? Do I need any software for this? As people usually use a monitor or TV as the second screen, which I don' have those but an old spare laptop, I was thinking the most economic way to double up my screen. Many thanks.

  • Answer:

you can adjust the graphics card to an external display you need a VGA-VGA cable

basically you can remove the monitor and plug it in direct because all it is is the screen the smart crap that makes it make pictures is inside built into the motherboard since the laptop is still working you should be able to download some software that lets you use it as a second monitor that runs on the network but this will make your network slow if you wish to do this then go on youtube and type in "use an old laptop as a second monitor" however i suggest you buy a new monitor because they can be found cheap as low as 15 pounds or new for 80 and you can sell your old laptop parts on ebay for some money i sold the parts for mine for double its worth because people are willing to spend that little bit more to fix there laptops instead of getting a new one so hinges 50 pounds even thought they cost 20p to make sure why not
