How to connect to the Internet on CentOS?

My Macbook will not connect to the internet from my house...help?

  • Okay, So I have a Mac OS X Version 10.5.8....It had been connecting to my houses wireless internet quite fine for about 2 years! Until one morning when I woke up, opened up my laptop and it didn't connect like it usually did! I tried restarting my laptop...that didn't work. I tried restarting my modem..that also did not work. And the weird thing is, my brother (a PC user) connection is just fine, so I thought to myself, okay, maybe its a Mac problem. So I took it to Mac and it immediatly connected to the internet inside of the Mac store, so apparently it's not my Mac thats the problem. So just to double check it isnt my Mac, I took my laptop to school to see if it would connect to my schools wireless internet and it did with NO PROBLEM WHAT SO EVER...So I really think that its my wireless internet provider...? Idk I need help...My wireless internet provider is Verizon..Been with them forever and they've always been reliable until recently. I'm beginning to think the recent change in my cable plan had some conflict with the connection to my Mac. Because one of the cable boxes in my house lost signal the night before my mac stopped connecting to the internet. The guy came out to fix the box but I didn't ask him about my laptop because I thought itd fix itself by then. But no, so I called Verizon and they had the nerve to say that no one can come out because they don't deal with this type of issue and they actually think its my mac, even after telling them I had took it to an apple store and it works there as well as at school. So this is where I need help. Has anyone ever had this problem? I really need to connect to the internet at home from my laptop because home is where I do all of my video editing...And sometimes I need to download things for my videos..which I cant do since it won't connect. So any help will be TRUELY! APPRECIATED~

  • Answer:

Check the settings on your modem. The setting for MAC address filtering could be screwy, make sure that didn't get actived/deactived by accident. Also, check to make sure it saved your connection in the network settings on your mac. Another thing to look at would be, open your system preferences and then open the network settings. At the top there should be a bar that shows "Location" with a drop down menu and set it to Automatic. Not sure how that could affect it all that much, but you never know. Not sure if any of this provides a solution or not, but it's just a few more things to try.

Deleting and rebuilding your wireless profile used to connect you to the router might help. Try using a WIRED connection to the modem / router, is the other PC that works wireless or wired? If you can connect at another location then your hardware sounds OK. You mention a cable box (TV cable?) failed or was changed, but also mentioned Verizon wireless. Does Verizon supply your cable as well? Not sure what you mean, or which service provider is supplying your internet. Make sure you power cycles all hardware, modem, router, computer.
