How do I make my PC connect to my TV through HDMI?

  • Hello! I bought a new computer (gateway) and a new TV (Sony Bravia KDL-EX500) And I have it hooked up via VGA cable, and it works great! On the downside, I cant hear sounds through my TV, And I was thinking, since the HDMI is on the motherboard, it should transfer both video and audio to my TV. Here's the problem, I get a signal error whenever I connect it, and switch to the right input. I've tried restarting the PC and TV, tried lowering the resolution/refresh rate. I even tried the projector option! Google also fails me, so, I'm hoping one of you knowledgable people can help me, thanks!

  • Answer:

Either the cable is bad or the PC is trying to display in a resolution that the TV doesn't support. First, try turning down your resolution on the computer to one of the resolutions that are listed in the TV's manual (usually in the back under specifications). You may also need to activate that output via the computer's graphics control panel. Where it is an what it looks like depends on what graphics card the computer has. If neither of those work, try a different cable.
