How to know if your monitor is HDCP compliant?

How can i use my hdcp compatible monitor?

  • ok i have had my 22inch monitor for 5 or so months and i found out that it is HDCP compatible does that meen that i can get an DVI to HDMI connector and put it on my monitor so i can have HD??? i know its HD cuz the picture is oustanding """MY MONITOR: Acer AL2216W 22 Inch Widescreen""" then get an HDMI and hook it up to my GPU ( YES ITS HDMI ) help would be great thanx.

    Well, you already have HD. The image that is on your computer is HD as monitor resolutions have been in the HD range for almost 15 years now, well before TV's were capable of those resolutions. What HDCP allows is for you to use it with other HDCP compatible devices, not just your computer. Playstation 3's and other game consoles are HDCP compliant. But it will not work as a television.

Yes, you can, just get an HD cable from your local Electronics store and hook it up. You can use this for Xbox 360 (I do.) and PS3 I think. Idk if you can actually watch tv but you might. Certain monitor's are computer HD only so check to make sure it's actually got the proper plug.

HDCP means that it will work with HDCP (High-bandwith Digital Content Protection) compliant devices (eg satellite/cable boxes etc.). DVI is HD. There will be no difference between using an HDMI cable or a DVI cable if it is connected to your computer. The only benefit of getting a dvi to hdmi adapter would be if you wanted to connect say your Xbox 360, PS3, or Blu-ray player to the monitor. Note that if you connect any of those devices that they would have no sound until you buy speakers compatible with the device.
