Laptop with second monitor display?

I have a secondary monitor hooked up to my laptop that I set as my secondary monitor. However, everytime the computer goes to sleep or is unplugged, the secondary monitor becomes the primary. How can I make windows remember that my laptop monitor is my main monitor?
