How can i get free tv in my computer?

How can I get a better picture using my plasma TV as a computer monitor?

  • I'm trying to use my plasma TV (Panasonic TH-40PZ80U) as a computer monitor. The video card in my computer (Radeon X1300) has DVI and the TV has HDMI so I bought a cable that goes from DVI on one end to HDMI on the other. It worked, but the quality is what I would describe as a notch below tolerable. I wasn't expecting the quality to be great to begin with, but what I'm getting is a lot of noise, specifically horizontal blue lines and mess everywhere. The video quality actually seems like it would be pretty decent, the videos I tried watching were relatively sharp, but it's drowned out in a haze of bluish interference. My question is basically what is the cause of this (the cable? the video card? some kind of incompatibility? a normal occurrence when going from DVI to HDMI?) and what are my options in terms of fixing it (new video card? settings adjustment?). Any help/insight would be much appreciated.

  • Answer:

Check what the "native" resolution of your tv is. If you are running your computer on too high of a resolution, it can create artifacts much like what you are talking about due to not being able to display the pixels properly. Also you can get a haze if you are running in a resolution much lower than your native resolution. That is when you get a highly pixelated image. Look in your manual or online ( I did a brief google search for the model number you listed and couldnt find a tv) and see what the native resolution for the display is. If you ARE in fact running in the correct resolution, THEN you can look into other problems, and from my experience, from most common to least common the problem is: 1) Not running in native resolution 2) Video card not powerful enough to run dual( or one very large) display(s) 3) Bad cable or adapter Hope this helps!

My answer would be to get a better video card with an HDMI output. The video card you are using is pretty outdated. It would be much better quality if you had a newer video card that supports HDMI because you have something that is straight HDMI to HDMI, not DVI to HDMI, which converts the output and decreases quality. Here are a few video cards with different prices that have a HDMI output SAPPHIRE 100265HDMI Radeon HD 4830 512MB $95 on Newegg.com GIGABYTE GV-N96TSL-1GI GeForce 9600 GT 1GB Silent Cell $120 Newegg.com And also you can view this link for any other video card that fits a price you are willing to spend. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010380048%201320923120&bop=And&ShowDeactivatedMark=False&ActiveSearchResult=True&Order=RATING

First solution to do is try a known working cable, DVI to HDMI shouldn't have interference. The card might have some bent pins causing this problem also, so get a butter knife and gently put them back into place if they are not in correct position.
