ive found some IBM screens the older tube types power supplies get flaky this way with allot of use. The IBM and some IBM clone type tube unit have this problem and its manufacturer defect you cant fix it so get as much use you can out this old technology and then upgrade to a new LCD or thin screen liquid high def monitor thats not propriatary some HP and compaq connection pins are so proprietary and wont work with those cheaper thin screens like viewsonic or emachine low cost lcd I really dislike the fact the big box stores like best buys dont tell you that most machines dont allow you the freedom to buy any old screen you might like to have but at a lower cost. check connectivity before purchase of a new screen might be a costly mess if you dont. make sure the screen easily will wire onto your existing system tower before you invest your hard bucks and buy it on your credit card so you can return it and not incurr charges for it not melding or compliant to your system once you get it home if its gonna affix to your laptop or even your desk top try it at the store first before finishing the purchase so you dont have to pay no restocking fees best buys is notorious for this and they keep 15%+ cheers avoid them ripping you off having to bring the thing back to the store and having to pay the restocking fees. they are so annoying to have to have pay when the sales staff will tell you anything to get you to buy anything out of best buys regardless if you have to bring it back and get charged for restocking. I got this run around last laptop I bought for 2k and had to pay a 300 dollar restock fee when the damned thing failed to allow dual home system use like I was expecting so since it was not a computer failure but a softeware failure which is not a covered reason for returning a computer for no compliance I could never get the thing to work as a dual home and laptop system as wanted even when I had the Geek squad over to debug the reason the failure stopped the laptop from working with my home HP I figured since both where HP the drivers would mesh but even three geek squad techs couldnot get this equipement to work as expected I had to buy from best buys a home dual system with new upgraded drivers in order to accomplish the capacity and scope of using my home desktop and linking a wifi laptop with compatiable softeware to get the speed and flexibilities of a linked laptop running similar softeware versions without linking to internet failures. Which is why internet explorer was failing to load and run for each separate system without being seamless and being able to walk from the living room using the laptop then have the wife on the other desktop working in different environments without there being error message the software was clashing and internet explorer could not handle the errors then the software would hang. Every time. Cheers try getting your new screen without getting ripped off by store practices like best buys has. Costco is old equipment closeouts of old technology and has very little support for their purchases so they make you rely on the manufacturer help lines which are always very busy and hard to get a live body help and have hidden fees for service help beyond the first year warrantee. cheers hope this helps.
