Can I connect my laptop to my HDTV using HDMI?

HDMI from laptop to TV isn't showing correctly?

  • Okay so I've been trying to get this right for hours and it just isn't working and I honestly don't get why. I'm using an HDMI cable to connect my laptop to my HDTV to watch movies but it won't display in 1080p. My laptop's max resolution is 1440 x 900 and when I connect it to the TV and set it to 1920 x 1080 it cuts off a little bit of the sides and a little bit of the top and the bottom. I thought maybe setting it to the same resolution of the laptop would work but 1440 x 900 also cuts off the sides and the top and bottom. The highest resolution where I can see everything is 1768 x 992 and on this setting instead of cutting off a little I get a black bar all around the screen. I don't know whether it's just vista being stupid (and I know many times it is) or what but this doesn't really make sense. I've played around with all of the resolutions and used many options for the past hour but nothing works. My TV is an 82 inch mitsubishi DLP and it's supposed to be full 1080p so I really want to use it for movies because I know it would look great. Any help or suggestions or insight would be great. Thanks
