How can I dual screen my monitors in this condition?
-
My Dell monitor has a DVI and VGA port while my Dell hard drive has a DVI and two HDMI ports. What cords would I need to buy for my HP vp17 monitor, which has a DVI and VGA port, in order for me to dual screen?

Answer:
You said your Dell hard drive has a DVI and two HDMI ports...are you referring to the computer itself? Hard drives are inside the computer and don't do a thing with the video. If that's the case... For a cheap solution, just find 2 cables from www.amazon.com or www.newegg.com. the cables need to be a DVI to VGA converter and HDMI to DVI converter. Of and before you do anything make sure the video connectors on your computer are HDMI and not the Display Port. Because if its the display port, then you need a Display port adapter.

The DVI and HDMI signals are the same the port is the only thing different. You can get a cable that has a DVI connector on one end and an HDMI connector on the other end. Something like this: http://www.ccl-la.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=188 Just plug it up and configure your display settings to enable extended display so the screen is extended to both screens.
I am not sure if you mean dual monitors. That means use two screens with the same computer. If you have two monitors you would need one to be either of the connection types and the other to be another. Sounds like you have dmi and hdmi. I don't believe there to be hdmi conversion cable. but you can convert dmi to vga it believe. There is very cheap adaptor for the conversion found here http://www.ebay.com/itm/DVI-Female-VGA-Male-adapter-DVI-I-dual-link-24-5-/130615221994?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e69461eea Only $3.50 I found that you can convert DVI to HDMI also here also cheap http://www.ebay.com/itm/HDMI-GOLD-MALE-VGA-HD-15-MALE-Cable-6FT-1-8M-1080P-/270839992739?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f0f5251a3 These would convert your output to your monitor so you can dual Screen. Another way is to add a graphics card with a HDMI VGA and DVI out put or a combination of both. You would also have better performance. I like the Nvidia this one is perfect. You add this and have HDMI and one of each DVI and VGA added to your computer. You will also get better performance from your computer when ever graphics such as video, movies, pictures, and games are being used. But don't let me decide you can just by the adaptor. But for $30 you get dual screen and improved performance. And this one is made for Dell. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nvidia-Geforce-G310-512MB-VGA-HDMI-DVI-PCIe-x16-Dell-Video-Card-FTGGG-/270853489387?pt=PCC_Video_TV_Cards&hash=item3f102042eb
