Which monitor should I get?

How do I get a used dell 1800fp monitor to work with a used computer I bought which has a ATI All In Wonder?

  • Hi both the 18.1in 1800fp and the pc are dell, the pc is a 4550 with what the paperwork says is a 64mb ddr nvidia geforce4 mx graphics card with tv out. The cable that came with the monitor has 2 female dvi ends. there is a dvi male on the monitor, but not on the pc. To use the pc immediately I connected a dell 825tm to one of the two short male vga cables coming from the video card. The pc automatically installed the driver for the 825tm and that is the only monitor installed. anyway I went and got a dvi to vga adapter and tried to boot the pc up using the 1800fp, i tried with both male ends coming from the video card neither worked.my pc wont let me install another monitor driver ( i downloaded the 1800 driver) can anyone tell me how to make the 1800 work? thanks for any advice, Jerry.

  • Answer:

Try switching the cables while the computer is turned on if you are using windows xp or newer it will automatically load the plug and play drivers and you won't have to worry about downloading or installing other drivers.

Does that graphics card support the resolution of the monitor (1920x1080)?
