MONITOR HAS VGA PORT ONLY?

I bought a xfx ati radeon hd 5770 recently and then came to know that it has dvi slots only.While my monitor has only a vga slot.So to solve this i bought a dvi/vga adaptor.but when i connect the monitor through the adaptor the monitor displays "check signal cable". what can be the problem.is it my monitor ,new gpu or the adaptor ??? please help!!!!

It should be working. Turn everything off disconnect the monitor and cables and reconnect them and then try again. If it doesn't work then your adapter might be bad. Get a different adapter and try. If it still doesn't work then it could be the cable. If all that doesn't work it could be your gpu. Have fun!

Adaptors normally fails.. Get a VGA to DVI cable.... This will really help

When you get the "check signal cable" just power off your monitor and switch it back again.

Either try to put the computer to sleep and plug everything in, or restart the computer then plug everything in, that works for me usually.
