What is the best Solar Screen for windows?

What does it mean if I can boot into Windows and the screen is black but has a working mouse?

  • So some time ago I rebooted my Windows 7 computer and my resolution was set to 1600 x 1200, when it was previously set to 1680 x 1050, my monitor's resolution. The normal control panel settings didn't have the option of setting it to 16:10 and 16:9 options, so I went into my Nvidia control panel that came with my Geforce 9800 GT and used it to set the resolution to 1680 x1050, and it wouldn't allow it. So I both installed new video drivers for my graphics card and switched my VGA cables, and and it still wouldn't allow me to use 1680 x 1050. I turned off the computer for a while, then when I rebooted it, I had a problem with Windows. I could boot up Windows, would get the POST, would get the windows logo, then after that, the screen stays black, but I can see my mouse on-screen. So, what's wrong? I use Avast anti-virus and Tor, if that makes any difference.

  • Answer:

Can you boot to safe mode (tapping F8 during the start sequence to reach the advanced startup menu)? Once in safe mode, remove your nVidia software and drivers. It sounds like you've totally confused them. At least with the default VGA driver you'll be able to see somthing. You may need to install a monitor driver. Normally monitors are all plug & play, but sometimes the explicit driver will unlock resolution settings you really need.
